30. Cleveland Cavaliers
Total Points: 1688.5
Record: (0-10)
Bolstering the worst record in the league at (0-10), the lowly CAVS look much different than their real-life counterpart. Rostering the budding superstar Devin Booker is proving not to be enough to deliver this Cavalier team their 1st win. Hopefully, the future of the CAVS is brighter with their young prospects, Issac, Lauri and Bender, but that is yet to be seen. Already eliminated from playoff contention, the pressure is on the CAVS front office to use their projected lottery pick to find another key piece in this years stacked rookie draft.
29. Memphis Grizzlies
Total Points: 3593
Record: (0-9)
The bad news, as the other winless team in the league, the Memphis Grizzlies are looking for answers. The good news, they have Joel Embid. Though surrounded by injury concerns, Embid is one of the true young superstar NBA talents. Memphis is obviously looking towards the future as they are out of playoff contention. They have a lot of holes to fill in order to turn the ship around, and hopefully a hit on a high lottery pick next year can start “The Process”.
28. Dallas Mavericks
Total Points: 2852.5
Record (1-8)
Similar to its real-life counterpart, the fate of the Dallas Mavericks falls with the progression of their most recent lottery pick Dennis Smith Jr. Already the 2nd leading scorer on the team, trailing the 1st by only .7 afppg, Smith Jr in his first year is proving to be the MAVS most productive asset. Overall, this young roster still has some time to develop, but with youth comes inconsistency. So even with a decent lottery pick this year, don’t look for the MAVS to make a playoff push this year or in the near future.
27. Charlotte Hornets
Total Points: 3608.5
Record (1-8)
One of the more disappointing teams this season, the Charlotte Hornets have had it rough from the start. With Lavine still yet to return, an injury to Batum to start the season, the Bledsoe fiasco in Phoenix and the missed time by Kemba and many others on the roster. The Hornets haven’t been able to play with a full deck. Even still, with having productive pieces, they may need more depth to pull off a miracle resurgence. Look for Charlotte to add high level talent through the draft as their chances for a playoff berth are slim to none.
26. Philadelphia 76ers
Total Points: 5038.5
Record: (1-8)
Though their record is nothing to get excited about, this team has some young talent. The last one win team in the league, the Philadelphia team isn’t having any issues putting up points currently being in the 60tt percentile. Ben Simmons looks to be a fantasy superstar in the making supported by high ceiling youth in the likes of Lonzo Ball and Dario Saric. Philly still has some holes to fill, but looks to have a promising foundation to start with. With one of the toughest schedules in the Eastern Conference, Philly should start looking past the playoffs and focusing on the draft.
25. Phoenix Suns
Total Points: 3793.5
Record: (2-8)
The Phoenix Suns have been a real mystery thus far this year. Taking a huge hit from the investment and lack of production of Markelle Fultz, the Suns are looking for a leader to step up on the roster. Gary Harris is a nice player, but far from consistent. With a ton of youth who isn’t being giving a ton of opportunity on the court, the Suns are full of underutilized talent. if the Suns have any plans on contending in the near future, they may need to explore the trade and FA markets to go alongside their lottery pick next year.
24. Los Angeles Lakers
Total Points: 5243
Record: (2-8)
Projected as mid-tier contending team in the preseason, the fall from grace of the Los Angeles Lakers has been all but disappointing. Having not bounced back since the injury to D’Angelo Russell, the Lakers have experienced disappointing starts from a number of key guys from the likes of Noel to Brandon Ingram. Though of recent, they have seen a few guys return from the injury bug to start making contributions, it is a probably a little too late for a playoff push. This team is 1-2 contributing players away from changing its path and with 3-1st rounder’s next year, the Lakeshow has a lot ways to acquire those pieces.
23. Utah Jazz
Total Points: 4351.5
Record: (2-7)
Whoever would have thought that a team rostering Stephen Curry, Gordon Hayward and Marc Gasol would be this low in the standings? With injuries and inactivity, the Utah Jazz has had a season to forget. Due to 3 players accounting for almost 60% of the team’s cap, and with a lack of productive depth on the roster, the Jazz need Hayward to comeback like yesterday. That and some help by other teams is the only way the Jazz will even sniff the playoffs. With no picks in this year’s draft, they will need to make major moves to build around their Big 3.
22. Oklahoma City Thunder
Total Points: 4519.5
Record: (3-6)
Similar to his plight last year, though putting up stellar numbers, Russell Westbrook can’t win games by himself. For a team with the minimum roster count and limited cap space, the Thunder came into the season needing productive contributions from every rostered player. Due to injury and lack of playing time, that has not been the case. With Mike Conley slated to miss more extended time, the Thunder probably don’t have enough firepower to storm their way into the playoff hunt. With their pick next year, and some decent talent in their G-League we hope that OKC can strengthen Russell’s supporting cast this offseason.
21. Milwaukee Bucks
Total Points: 6241
Record: (4-6)
A team who is not adequately reflected by their record is the Milwaukee Bucks. Led by potential MVP candidate “The Greek Freek”, the Bucks have had to conquer one of the tougher schedules in the Eastern Conference. Already defeating one division top seed and losing by 1 to another, the Bucks have proven they have the talent, but just haven’t been able to piece together the wins. With the 2nd half schedule not letting up, the Bucks are looking for all their players to return to health as they make this run for the playoffs.
20. Orlando Magic
Total Points: 5071
Record (4-5)
The breakout play of Aaron Gordon and the surprising contributions from rookie sensation Donovan Mitchell have allowed the Magic to play above preseason expectations. Though losing Beverly to a season ending injury, the Magic still have a big-time piece in Draymond Green as they make their late season push. If this team has any chance of getting one of the final seeds in the East, they are going to need everything he has and more. With no 1st round pick in this year’s draft, the Magic are going to have to find the winning potion.
19. San Antonio Spurs
Total Points: 5110.5
Record: (4-5)
If Kawhi Leonard hadn’t missed the 1st part of the fantasy season, we would more than likely be talking about the Spurs earlier in our standings. With MVP hopeful Kyrie Irving and blossoming star Bradley Beal, the Spurs have the name value to compete with any roster. Though, due to a lack of front court depth, inconsistent play and the absence of one of their fantasy juggernauts, the Spurs find themselves scratching to slide into a late seed in a tough Western Conference. With no picks in next year’s draft, the Spurs definitely need to be in win-now mode.
18. Miami Heat
Total Points: 5789
Record: (4-5)
The Miami Heat is another team the many should look out for in the 2nd part of the season. Due to injuries to key contributors, the Heat have had rely on their depth guys to carry the scoring burden. Yet, now that Whiteside has returned and opportunity has opened up for Ish Smith, Miami has a chance to see an increase in overall production. Not to mention the outstanding play from rookie Kyle Kuzma, who many thought Miami reached for in the 2017 Rookie Draft (WE WERE WRONG!). Still in possession of their draft pick for this year, Miami should be active prior to the trade deadline. One solid piece could give Miami that extra to push needed to get into the playoffs.
17. Toronto Raptors
Total Points: 5951
Record: (4-5)
It’s obvious the fate of the Toronto Raptors falls in the hands of Blake Griffin. The Raptors have done an impressive job of winning just enough and staying in the playoff hunt in his absence. Relying on guys like Jeff Teague and Carmelo Anthony supported by rotation players, the Raptors still have playoff hopes. The recent loss of Jeff Teague will for sure make the hill to a playoff berth harder to climb, and the 2nd half schedule for the Toronto Raptors won’t help as well. But lucky for them Blake is back, so things are looking up.
16. Chicago Bulls
Total Points: 6552.5
Record: (5-5)
The Chicago Bulls are exceeding expectations this year similar to their real life counterparts. While going through injury stints with both of their key contributors in Rondo and Butler, Chicago has still managed to compile a 500 record. With a roster full of depth and rotation players, things have swung in favor of the Bulls many times this season. The move of Jahlil Okafor to Brooklyn could also provide an immediate impact if he is given the opportunity. Much is to be seen of the Bulls team…. are they true contenders or are they playing over their heads… we shall see soon enough!
15. Indiana Pacers
Total Points: 6714.5
Record (5-5)
When it comes to star power the Indiana Pacers has a good bit of it. Rostering Jrue Holiday, PG13, Demar Derozan and Brook Lopez the Pacers have no issue scoring points. Though even with all this offensive firepower a lack of depth seems to be really crippling the Pacers. Which can especially be seen in the extended loss of Brook Lopez. Yet, even with a 500 record, Indiana can prove to be one of the more dangerous teams in the league. If able to get all players healthy, Indiana has the assets to make some noise prior to the trade deadline. A few more solid role players could launch Indiana into the playoffs and beyond.
14. Los Angeles Clippers
Total Points: 7012
Record (5-5)
The Los Angeles Clippers is a team that can make a lot of noise in the 2nd half of the season. In a tough Western Conference where they have had one of the toughest schedules in the league, the Clippers look to get Chris Paul back to help serve as their anchor in their pursuit of the playoffs. Paul along with Lowry and a handful of quality rotation players, if operating at full health, allow the Clippers to go head up with the best team on any night. Be sure to keep the Clippers on your radar.
13. Sacramento Kings
Total Points: 7131.5
Record: (6-4)
Another big surprise this year is the Sacramento Kings. A lottery team in this past year’s draft, Sacramento has put together a roster of young players who have regular and consistent roles in their team’s rotations. Led by Andre Drummond who is having one of his best years as a pro, and Jaylen Brown who has logged big minutes since the loss of Hayward, the Kings have come through with some big wins. With the absence of any true “Super-Star Talent” on the roster, Sacramento will have to continue to rely on their depth and the upside of their youth to continue this momentum into the second half of the season and playoffs.
12. Houston Rockets
Total Points: 7026
Record: (6-3)
When you have James Harden, some things just come a little easier. Houston Rockets are showing to be a force in the Western Conference. Rostering league scoring friendly guys like Deandre Jordan and Clint Capela to play alongside Harden and quality depth rotation guys, the Houston Rockets have potential to make some noise. Barring injury or any other setback, the Rockets have a remaining schedule that makes them almost a lock for the postseason
11. Atlanta Hawks
Total Points: 7293
Record: (6-3)
The Atlanta Hawks are currently on a tear in the Eastern Conference winning 6 out of their last 7 contests. Lebron James is consistently carrying the load, but the Hawks have gotten great production from other star players in the likes of Dennis Schroeder and Kevin Love. Though not the deepest team in the league, the Hawks have guys that can put up 30+ every outing. The Hawks are currently #2 in their division and battling the Washington Wizards for the #1 seed, so their ranking could increase drastically within the next week. Don’t sleep on the Hawks with the 4th highest point total in the league, while still not having Dion “Waiters County” active at this point. Look for the Hawks to be a strong force in the Eastern Conference Playoffs.
10. Boston Celtics
Total Points: 7059
Record: (6-2-1)
The Boston Celtics are being overlooked by many in the Eastern Conference as a true contender. Many felt that Boston would have trouble competing with the more star powered teams in the Eastern Conference, especially with the absence of Isaiah Thomas, but that has not been the case. The Celtics roster is built with a number of guys that can either fill the stat sheet or put up big offensive numbers. The depth of these player types and the consistency of their roles in their team’s rotation has led to great success. So as long as Boston can rely on players like Covington, Josh Richardson and Al Horford to keep putting up nice numbers in anticipation of the return IT, Boston might be peaking at the best time. Look for them in the playoffs.
9. Portland Trailblazers
Total Points: 6217
Record: (7-2)
The Portland Trailblazers are a for sure playoff team. Though having one of the weaker schedules in the conference, Portland has beat 3 of the 4 teams that they faced who had a record over 500. Led by Damian Lilllard and Cj McCollum, the Trailblazers roster has proven that it can beat the better teams in the league any given week. Especially with the level of play they are getting from Enes Kanter, Steven Adams and Marcus Smart. With limited depth, Portland will have to lean heavy on their primary contributors. As long as the team can stay on the court and continue their high level of play, they have a chance to ride those performances deeper into the playoffs.
8. Brooklyn Nets
Total Points: 7441.5
Record: (8-1)
Ladies and Gentlemen, I would like to introduce you to the midseason “Franchise of the Year”, the Brooklyn Nets. This Nets team is the real deal. Another turn around team that was in this past year’s lottery, Brooklyn’s aggressiveness in trading and UFA has led to the construction of a complete team. Currently on a 7-game win streak, highlighted by Rookie star Jayson Tatum and Jusuf Nurkic the Nets haven’t looked back since losing in Week 1. They may also have made the UFA acquisition of the off season in Tyreke Evans who is currently a top 40 fantasy player. With one of the easiest remaining schedules in the league, as it looks now the Nets has a real good chance to lock himself amongst the top of the Eastern Conference.
Not to mention this guy has like 1/6th of the leagues 1st round picks next year.
7. Denver Nuggets
Total Score:7840
Record: (8-1)
The Denver Nuggets just may have the deepest team in the league in regard to quality. With a mix of veterans and productive youth, the Denver Nuggets has proved themselves an offensive force by having the 2nd highest point total in the league. Victor Oladipo has stunned the entire NBA with his play in a premier role in Indiana and is leading this team in points. Oladipo is just one of the many weapons Denver has in its deep stable of guards bolstering players like Tyler Johnson and Darren Collison. Oh yeah, how can we forget about Denver’s prime jewel, Jokic serving as a nice anchor for the team. Call it what it is, this Denver Nuggets roster is stacked and looking to be a top seed in the West.
6. Washington Wizards
Total Score: 5964.5
Record: (6-3)
The worst of the current #1 division seeds, the Washington Wizards have to be one of the luckiest teams in the league. With a point total in mid percentile, the Wizards have benefited from a favorable schedule. With Wall underperforming primarily due to injury and Avery Bradley currently out, the Wizards are struggling to keep their head above water as they make this late season push for the playoffs. Lucky for them, with a recent win over the #1 team in the conference and the roster returning to full health, the Wizards may be able to pull it together and put these recent losses behind them. The Wizards are currently in a battle with the Atlanta Hawks for the #1 seed in the division. Keep an eye on the matchup, it could later prove to have playoff implications.
5. Detroit Pistons
Total Points: 7941
Record: (7-2-1)
The current point leader in the league, the Pistons are steamrolling through the East. With a handful of players that can put up 30+ points nightly and a few 40+, the Pistons haven’t lost since week 3. What’s really been impressive is the play of their rotation guys and draft picks. The surprising play of Napier, Moore and their rookie Dillion Brooks has provided Detroit with a complete offensive onslaught. With an average schedule ahead of them, the Pistons are going to be hard to top in the Eastern Conference. This team has the potential to make a run for the finals.
4. Golden State Warriors
Total Points: 6560.5
Record: (8-2)
The Golden State Warriors have been able to stay atop of their division holding off a surging Sacramento Kings. Kevin Durant has flourished this year, especially in his defensive numbers making him even more of a scoring threat. Though they have seen key injuries to big parts of their team in Gallinari, Turner and Gobert, their soft schedule to this point has played in their favor. Though Golden State has lost to 2 of the 3 opponents they have faced who were over 500, they can compete with any team. They should be in full health coming into to playoffs, making them a team to fear.
3. New York Knicks
Total Points: 7553.5
Record (8-1)
Kristap is running the Big Apple and the New York Knicks are running the Eastern Conference. Currently the overall #1 seed in the Eastern Conference, the Knicks were tearing through the conference before taking their first lost just last week. Kristap has been fantastic this year without Carmelo and is rumored to be a favorite for a FFD All Star birth. Along with Kristap, the Knicks have an arsenal of weapons ranging from sharpshooter Klay Thompson to stat sheet filler Ricky Rubio. Despite injury issues with a few of their core guys, elevated play from guys like Spencer Dinwiddie has kept the Knicks atop the rest. Though the injuries are seeming to start to catch up with the Knicks as of late, they should be locked and loaded by the time playoffs come around.
2. Minnesota Timberwolves
Total Points: 7050
Record (8-1)
Led by Karl Anthony Towns the Minnesota Timberwolves come in #2 in our standings. With one of the tougher schedules in the league, the Timberwolves have been able to live up to the hype whenever tested. Though recently losing Reggie Jackson to injury and missing Paul Milsap and Terrence Ross for some time now, the Timberwolves have seen big performances from Austin Rivers, Andrew Wiggins and Derrick Favors. It’s a wonder that with the key injuries they have had that this Minnesota Timberwolves team has been able to accomplish what they have. This team put a lot on the line this offseason and it seems that those investments are paying off.
1. New Orleans Pelicans
Total Points: 7553.5
Record (8-1)
Let’s be honest, did you expect someone else? The New Orleans Pelicans are the top dog, led by the unstoppable duo of Anthony Davis and Boogie Cousins. Preseason projections said that the Pelicans may not have the needed support around their 2 superstars to carry them through the season, but we have been proven wrong. With surprising contributions from Justin Holiday, Jarret Jack and Courtney Lee has provided their 2 superstars with just enough support to remain dominant. Supported by one of the softer schedule, the Pelicans are playoff bound. The Pelicans are good. You don’t want to face this team unless you are operating at 100%, AD and Boogie are scary.
